UN Children’s Fund. Formerly known as the UN International Children’s Emergency Fund, it was established in 1946 to provide assistance to child victims of World War Two. Since 1953 its mandate has extended to assisting children in all developing countries and speaking out for children’s rights. It is the only UN agency concerned exclusively with the needs of children.
